Harper: Mike Harris Conservative

Do you remember the last election when Harper was quoted saying that “The best place to look for a model for how Canada would be governed is Ontario under Mike Harris.”?

This is the same Harris that was in power when the Ministry of Health failed to properly test Walkerton’s water supply. Seven died and hundreds became ill because they failed to discover that the water was contaminated with E.Coli.

This is the same Harris government that was responsible for the cold shooting of Ipperwash Indian Dudley George of which Harris was quoted saying “I want the fucking Indians out of the park”.

This is the same Harris who laid off hundreds of nurses and closed hospitals as a cost saving measure, to which we are hurting now for the vast doctor and healthcare shortages in the province.

This is who Harper wants to be. This is what he wants to do to Canada. Do you really want to let Harper back into parliament??

Is the economy sound or not, Mr Harper??

Harper recently told Canada that we are economically sound. He told Canadians that “Canada is not the United States” when trying to explain that the US crisis would not have a big lasting effect on Canada.

Today, news was released that Canada is headed for a bad recession, lasting until potentially 2010.

Today, Harper is saying “We’re not an island” and touting that we should have expected this to happen. He is proposing a buyout plan should he get elected. It was obvious to most Canadians this would happen almost a month ago. Why is Harper flip-flopping? Is the economy sound or not Mr Harper??

McCain 4 Prime Minister??

“The fundamentals of our economy are strong.” – John McCain, Sept 15, Black Monday.

“The fundamentals of our economy are strong.” – Steven Harper, Oct 1, translated from the French debates.

Harper continued to re-emphasise his position on the economy on Oct 2 during the English debates. If this is so true, then why Harper, why did the TSX have it’s biggest drop since the 2000 bust on Oct 3?

Why bother electing Harper for Prime Minister? It’s obvious he’s just going to mindlessly copy everything McCain does anyways. Might as well elect McCain in Canada!

Vote strategically if you can

The more time that goes on in this election, the more I don’t want the conservatives in power. If you are like me and don’t want the Conservatives to win anything more than a minority, then there are ways you can vote strategically. There are websites, such as http://www.voteforenvironment.ca/ that will tell you if your riding is in close range to winning with one of the other parties, such as NDP, Liberal, or Green. You can then vote for the highest non-conservative party that has the best chance of winning in your riding. If the conservatives have no chance of winning in your riding, you can vote for who you would have in the first place.

Let’s keep mini-McCain out of power!

Greens allowed to debate

I was going to write a pros/cons post about the implications of allowing Elizabeth May to participate in the televised debates and eventually conclude that we should just allow it. However, now I don’t have to as Harper and Layton have ok-ed it. Woot!

Upcoming Canadian Election

So I have been avoiding writing about this for a while.  I wanted to avoid mentioning the hypocracy of promising fixed election dates every four years in the last election and then calling an early election. I wanted to avoid comment on the awful conservative attack ads, but I can resist no longer.

Harper has sprung a protest in Newfoundland and Labrador when one of Harper’s attack ads showed a puffin, the Newfoundland and Labrador provincial bird, pooping on Stefan Dion’s head. Danny Williams has since launched a campain against the conservatives to get Harper out of government. His speach is really good and I highly recommend you watch and take what he has to say to heart (quicktime, real).

Harper is shitting on parts of Canada that he thinks are insignificant to get him his majority… do you really want someone like that in parliament??
